Dr. Sanjai Thankachen

Medical Director

Dr. Sanjai Thankachen graduated from Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medicine in 2000 and completed his psychiatry residency in 2008 at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in New York, where half of his training took place at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.

Following his residency, Dr. Thankachen worked in an adult outpatient setting at a county medical center before relocating to Orange County, California. He currently practices in both outpatient and inpatient psychiatric and medical settings, providing advanced and comprehensive mental health care.

Dr. Thankachen treats a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, and dementia-related disorders. He remains actively involved in professional organizations, holding memberships in the American Psychiatric Association, Indian Medical Association, and Karnataka Medical Association.

Sean Leonard, MSN, APRN

Nurse Practitioner

Sean Leonard is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with a diverse background in both primary care and psychiatric treatment. He earned his Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care from Walden University, followed by a post-master’s certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health from Rocky Mountain University.

With experience spanning a wide range of clinical settings—including outpatient clinics, inpatient detox and rehabilitation, psychiatric emergency care, and dual diagnosis programs—Sean specializes in treating substance use disorders, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, PTSD, ADHD, and OCD.

Although his primary focus is on adult populations, Sean has been trained to provide care across the lifespan, from children and adolescents to geriatric patients. His approach integrates medication management, crisis intervention, and psychotherapy, emphasizing a holistic and patient-centered model of care.

Sean firmly believes that “everyone can benefit from therapy, and many may also find significant improvement with medication. Therapy remains the cornerstone of my practice—whether or not medication is part of the treatment plan.”

Laurie Kelly, RN

Registered Nurse

Laurie Kelly, a compassionate Registered Nurse with over 25 years of experience, began her career in surgical nursing before finding her true calling in addiction medicine in 2008. After relocating to Southern California, she joined MPCRC at Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach, where she spent six impactful years. Laurie has since excelled in substance use disorder care, expanding her expertise in direct patient care, human resources, compliance, and admissions. Outside work, she enjoys reading, beach walks, fitness, and time with friends. Inspired by Footprints in the Sand by Mary Stevenson, Laurie embodies resilience and empathy in both her professional and personal life.
